Public Announcement: “Where I Went And How I Got There” is now “GreatDistances”

Where I Went And How I Got There is now GreatDistances

Welcome to GreatDistances – the new and improved home of the travel writing and photography of Matt Wicks.  This is version 2.0, at long last!

I’m thrilled with the new layout and functionality of the site – it’s a sea change from the previous WordPress theme/layout, which never really left me satisfied in its design nor navigability.  I think you’ll find this a much more fun and functional place to read, view and share.  I’m really looking forward to posting about new travel experiences, ideas and photography here.

The process of getting to this day:  migrating all previous content from “WordPress.com” blog to self-hosted WordPress open source site and allowing for the creative/layout changes required for transference to a new design theme has been quite a time-consuming process, and in the course of the redesign, I’ve definitely experienced a bit of a learning curve, as web admittedly isn’t really my background.  Accordingly, my hat is off to all of you out there that build beautiful, quick loading, navigable sites – it’s certainly not an automatic process.

The previous site (Where I Went & How I Got There) and the new (GreatDistances) will continue to run concurrently as of now, as some of the images and links are shared between the two sites.   Clicking through links here might end you up over there, even – but it’ll all be fixed in time and narrowed to only the GreatDistances site.  As the old becomes the new, I look forward to breathing a bit of new lift into old posts with re-edited (and not previously posted) photos, better readability, and text edits where my previous writing fell short or missed the mark.

Keep following along with our travels through an e-mail subscription (check the sidebar) and through the social media links to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others that you’ll find on the site.

Thanks!
– Matt
